Went to have my car inspected and had some time to waste so I took the DART rail around the city. It was nice getting to capture some color from this city during it’s somber winter feel.
I rode from Parker Road Station to the end of the Red Line at Westmoreland. Ventured into the “hood”, had lunch at Church’s and heard Pet Shop Boys’ “West End Girls.” Even the lady behind the counter was feeling the tune. Good music knows no boundary it seems. 🙂
Here is the intersection of Westmoreland and Illinois in South Dallas:

The ride back north proved the most exciting since I had only done the full ride once before (years ago when I fell asleep and rode the line to its end on accident, LOL).
Perspective shift from seeing the suits and ties roll onto the train into everyday people riding North to the self-same destinations as their more often than not affluent counterparts. I never thought of the train and the bus system as the great equalizer, but I do now.
The city is slowly building the ties to make this place work on the level of even Chicago (since we are the country cousin of New York and Los Angeles trying desperately to ape the actions and style that they both bring. While we are a bit behind in that regard, the fact that it is finally happening is what brings joy to me. The pockets of cool that have sprung up and the ways that they have become more accessible to ALL is a dream of the ages.
Here’s to hopefully seeing a working 24/7 city within the next decade!
