Last week courtesy of JT Donaldson, Luke Sardello, Arnold Velasco, and Tyrone Smiley and a roomful of listening ears and moving feet, J Dilla was paid tribute in one of the strongest ways possible: The power of a positive congregation.
Was a mesh of the uptown and across the tracks crowd, but never a scuffle arose or anyone’s calm exceed its limit. The blessing of THOUGHTFUL music and ENLIGHTENED attendees came through to show and prove both on the dancefloor and in some of the many conversations I both had/heard that night.
This young lady was the highlight of the night right after the music:
The remainder of the night was cheers and claps for the wide body of work covered by the man and spun by some of our local greats (with a few guest appearances here and there):
The people made and continue to make the party wherever I go. Faces and places are well and fine, but if the two do not match well, then you know things won’t last for long. When the lights came on many didn’t want to leave.
To J Dilla: Thank you for your positivity and your contributions to the Hip Hop world. It doesn’t have to be all guns, girls, and glory and the more ears that hear it, the better off our community will be.
Respect and One Love from up above.
